Background revives a home and gives immediate style. The material is applied in strips and will last for a long time if they are applied to the wall properly. Plan your house ideas interior program before you start – as the pattern on the first and last band will rarely match up perfectly, wallpaper will begin in a hidden corner. Background can be applied to any room in a home, and the project can be tackled in just one day.
Instructions
Paint the entire room with size, a primer that prepares the walls for wallpaper. Cut wallpaper strips that are 4 inches longer than the height of your walls. Cut the paper so that the pattern, if any, is cut at the same point on each strip. Place a strip of wallpaper with the pattern down on a table or flat surface and apply a thin layer of clear, premixed wallpaper adhesive with roles. Fold the wallpaper strip so that the top and bottom of the pasted side meet in the middle of the strip. This process is called booking and allows the paste to disconnect – consul the manufacturer’s instructions.
Fold up the strip and hang the strip in a corner. Leave 2 inches of excess wallpaper on the ceiling, and 1/8 of the excess material in the corner. Tap the wallpaper in place easily. Fold the bottom of the strip and press lightly into place. Use a paper smoother tool to press the paper firmly into the corner and into the seam where the ceiling meets the wall. Run paper smoother across the strip, work from top to bottom. Start with paper smoother in the middle of the wallpaper and press outward – it will remove air bubbles.
