Renovate your metal garage to increase storage and living space, improve your home value and generally revitalize your personal environment. Many metal garage kits are empty slates, but the sky should not be the limit with these renovations. Temper the scope of this DIY project by the potential for return on your investment, time and level.
Decorative renovations can do more than liven up a normal killing space. Priming, painting and waterproofing walls make the space more comfortable and energy efficient and reduce water damage. Paint the plaster as you would the walls of other rooms in the house. For walled walls, clean them thoroughly and then use a latex block filler to seal the pores. Use a long nap roll and paint with an interior latex paint. The sealing walls outside the garage will extend your paintwork and keep moisture out. Cover the floor with a good quality epoxy to add a professional shine and clean up lighter.
Epoxy paint can be expensive and sometimes difficult to apply, but only the visual impression makes it worth the effort. Changing a metal garage door is usually not a DIY project because of the weight of the door and the danger of high tension springs. Update the door appearance with color or upholstery. Improve its function with a screen to let in air and keep out bugs and other unwelcome pests.
