Design of Garage Storage Ideas

In many homes, the garage is used as a catch-all for utilities, sports equipment and home supplies. To limit the chaos in your garage, you can build garage storage ideas systems that aim to keep all types of items. When planning, consider storage devices that protect your vehicles and make the most of unused wall and ceiling space.

Small tools are some of the biggest contributors to the mess in a garage. Make a board that can organize tools of a variety of sizes using a tray and hooks. As you choose hooks, look for options that will support the weight of your tools without tearing pegboard. The board should be placed on a wall that is easily accessible, but not too close to your vehicle to avoid damage when tools slip off. For extra stability, mount wooden planks on the wall and attach the board directly to the wood.

Wall-mounted Racks

To keep rakes and grass tools from getting tangled up in the corners of your garage, build wall mounted racks to keep them off the floor and organized. Use two inches of four-inch boards to make simple shelves on the garage walls; you can cover the frame with solid plywood or leave it open for easy access. If you are going to use racks to store heavy items, add extra brackets along the bottom to support. You can also build racks to hold sports equipment, pool toys, or building materials. For wall-mounted racks, aim at a depth of two meters or less; the farther out from the wall, the less stable they will be.
