Us pond hockey championships – While hockey is our national sport par excellence, patriotism is alive and well in Plaster Rock, a community that annually gathers hundreds of teams from around the world to participate in its world championship in outdoor hockey. The games are played in a lively game, 4 against 4 and without goalkeepers! They are played outdoors, on a lake with 20 rinks, which allows a large number of teams to play simultaneously during the hectic days of the championship.
The event draws the attention of North American media such as the Toronto Globe and Mail , the New York Times and the New York Wall Street Journal .International Herald Tribune , plus broadcasters. This championship on natural ice is a unique event in the world; it truly celebrates Canadian culture – not only our passion for hockey, but the respect of the hockey tradition of yesteryear on the ponds, lakes and rivers of our childhood.
No less than 120 teams from around the world gather there every February to participate in the World Pond Hockey Championship. New Brunswick offers a multitude of other winter activities, including cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, so do not forget your hat, thermos and warmest wool socks.
